Hola amigos!! The sun has been shining all day and our temperatures are back to normal!!
A great day to be in Huatulco…lots of peeps to say hola to and lots of peeps to take fotos of.
But first we start with the pregunta (question) from ayer (yesterday). What is this verdura (vegetable)?
I had a quick reply from Chef Melon who said it is a squash.
Senor Wikipedia (in español y ingles), Daniel, tells me that is called a calabaza…pumpkin. The two are related are they not…pumpkin y squash?

Hola Marco, ví el video hace un rato en el blog ! y la respuesta a tu pregunta es fácil...pumpkin pero te explicaré un poco mas de los usos de la calabaza en Mexico ( links en rojo).
Flor de calabaza (pumpkin flower): usada muy tradicionalmente en quesadillas (delicious), preparada obviamente con queso (principalmente queso Oaxaca como se conoce en todo México y curiosamente aqui en Oaxaca conocido como "quesillo") y epazote.
Semilla de calabaza o pepita (seed): se come como botana o para preparar algunos platillos como el "pipian" y el "mole verde"

My question was easy to answer and according to Daniel, here are some uses.
The pumpkin flower is used in quesadillas with epazote. What I liked about his comment was that queso Oaxaca is famous in all of Mexico. In the state of Oaxaca it is simply called quesillo, where in the rest of Mexico, you would have to ask for it by name, queso Oaxacan.

The pumpkin seed is used in mole verde (green), pipian (another green sauce) and as roasted snacks.

And favorito de Daniel? Sweet calabaza con panela and served with leche (milk). He had a huge smile when we talked about this meal.

So now that we have solved another mystery, onto our day!!
Bexico was back at work despues de ejercicio and is busy!! Nothing new on the plato, but she has still has the animated monkey, the drawings for Paris and on her third contract she has finished 3 out of 4 drawing and their coloring, and still owes two logos. There was also word from the contract in Israel, but something is not “right” so we wait and see if the 50% deposit actually makes it into Bexico’s account.
I had a good stroll to the gym, making sure I brushed up on the score from la noche anterior partido de fútbol…last night’s big soccer game with Mexico vs Honduras. Mexico won 2-0 and talking about that with anyone today put a smile on their face, starting with Marcelino at the gate!!
El gimnsaio was busy and so was Rosa, so we had a brief chat about an email she sent Bexico. It was fotos of beautiful places throughout the world, but with winding roads to get to them. It was a broma (joke) because Rosa knows Bexico gets car sick!! Ja ja ja
It felt like a great workout, but sometimes the cardio part does not seem to register…and today was one of those days. Oh well.
Walked back through town, no luck on the w/d yet, and then stopped in to say hola to the boys. Everyone was there…but negocio esta mal. Sergio was back at work…no mat leave here. Rosa mentioned something about 5 weeks off but I was not sure if she meant paid or unpaid. She was floored when she heard about mat leave in Canada…and that the father could actually take the leave instead.
Great chat with the boys. Prefiero to learn about the culture and nuances of Mexico and it’s people, vs all the rules of español…but I do understand the importance. So our time was spent talking about food (calabaza) and fútbol.
Grabbed some platanos (forgot papas…argh) and then home for alberca time. There were a few locals around the pool, as well as some tourists who said hello to us.
Sergio tells me that the big vacation period is coming up in julio and we should expect lots of Mexicans at the condo…including the always loved chilangos!! Ja ja ja I guess school is almost out and with only 5 weeks off school, this is when families travel? That and during Navidad y Semana Santa.
Bexico went back to work, we had a pit stop for our ensaladas

Hombres working.
First off, the seguridad regional.
Not sure what their role really is….but I did see them out in the pouring rain, driving around with the gang in the back all poncho’d up.

He has stopped at a paleteria and managed to sell the senorita two papayas.

This young man was hitting up the many taxis on Carrizal and trying to sell his services.

Along with the hombres from the work site taking their lunch “break”.
