Buenos dias mis amigos. Wow what a difference some sleep makes!! For all of us!! Ja ja ja
Both Max and I were in bed by 930am and he had a feeding at 2am and then 5am when his tummy does its normal “act up”. So after he was fed, a little bitt (heex4) of gripe water and we both hit the sack in the spare room.
Managed to both sleep until almost 8am!! He then needed some changing, some hugs and some eats and at 9am, he is Senor Tranquilo in his conejito swing, cooing to me about his night out grabbing cheeseburgers with Bono. Oh Bono!!
Bexico is having her turn for a good sleep. Last night she managed to do some oficina work with the two of us silent…and then snuck in a little TV with the new dish.
Dish story after the vacunacións story.
So, ayer, up early and at the hospital for 730am, with the male nurse having told me to be there for 8am and Daniel telling me to be there earlier!!
Daniel was not there yet, so we went in and looked around. 30 sets of eyes fell on us as we were the only foreigners there…and of course Max is so cute.
The sala (room) where everyone waits is not so big and it is surrounded by doors that lead to the small rooms for shots, dental, eye care etc.
Daniel arrives and he figures out we are all just waiting for the show to begin at 8am. Everyone seems patient and everyone seems to know who was first in line etc.
At 745am the nurse opens his oficina door and starts handing out numbers. We are number 8 and at 8am, he starts calling numbers.
The first few niños took 15 minutes or so, and that left me thinking we would get in at 945am…and miss the 10am satellite appointment…but that was obviously secondary to Max getting his shots!!
We hung around, showing off Max, changing poopies and just chatting up Daniel y otra peeps.
Daniel knows a cute nurse there, oh Daniel, and they chatted up how many shots Max would get and then they said he would have to come back on martes for this TB shot. I interrupted then and reminded them it was martes and they laughed.
Why martes for TB? The hospital does not want to waste any medicina and I guess they can get a certain number of niños vaccinated from one vial, so instead of opening a vial for one niño and then having to waste the rest, get all the new bebes in on martes y jueves.
At 915 or so, our number was called and into the room we go. Same confused guy I had talked to last week, but at least he was now able to be confused in español!!
He had no cartilla in stock, but said using the printed (and well read) form I had with me, would work until the books were back in stock.
And what else are they out of? One of the shots. Ugh. Now this nurse says Max needs all the shots today and since they are out of one shot, when he comes in at 4 months for his oil change, they can give him the 2nd dose and he will be ok. Huh? Then why do the charts call for 2 doses?
No explanation and we decide to leave it alone and ask our pediatra when we see him. No answer on the Men-C shot either. It seems the nurse is well trained on his role, but anything outside that, he is not sure of.
Again…we will ask the pediatra.
Hey…930am, mom is up and Max is again well fed!!
So back to the needles and now it is time for one shot in Max’s arm, one in each chubby thigh and one oral dose.
Padre Bubba is in charge of holding Max tight and with each shot, we get a face the same color as the Cdn flag, a minute of screams of an inhuman nature, all followed by a minute of silence until the next shot.
When we left the room, he was a trooper and looked none the worse for wear.
We had asked Daniel if there was anywhere else in town we could get the one shot that the hospital was out of, and he suggested IMSS, which is the hospital regular folks would go to for their issues.
A quick walk down the street and we come upon a not so new hospital, but not too unlike St Pauls in downtown Vancouver.
Here we bump into some friends of Daniel, and the senorita, esposo y hijo all escort us to where we would get shots. And there Daniel runs into another bb friend. Oh Daniel.
They have a chat and it looks like she is doing us a favor by getting us in to see a nurse.
This nurse and her assistant were super friendly and explained everything to Daniel.
First off, yes they had the vacuna we needed. No they would not give it to Max today because he had already had 4 different vaccinations.
Yes they would give it to him in 15 days and no, there is no problem waiting the 2 weeks for his first dose and getting the second dose on time would be a-ok!!
As for the Men-C vacuna, it is included with the TB vacuna that he had just received. So…in 15 days, Max will be all caught up. More good news? As you could tell by the fotos from ayer, the IMSS did have the cartilla and they set one up for Max!!
It is a great little book, not unlike the Health Passport that we received from St Pauls when Max was born. This booklets is for tracking all his shots, cita de doctor y dentist, when he had his eyes and ears checked etc. I can see they are trying to keep it simple so that every familia here will know how and want to use the cartilla.
So, mission successful. We are so grateful to our amigo Daniel and he wants nothing for his time or expenses (cell phone, taxi), so we are going to take his family out for dinner when they are all back in town.
We left Daniel to hang out with his amigos and we made it home by 1005am. No Carlos (satellite guy) yet and at 1040am when I was about to give up, ta-da.
Carlos speaks very good ingles and is a well tanned 50 year old hombre. He teaches scuba and when he bought a dish and found out it would be 2 months to have an installer come, he decided to become the Dish rep here in Huatulco.
So up the ladder we go with his small TV, our receiver, an extension cord and the remote control.
He seems to know what he is talking about, but the Shaw dish and co-ordinates seems to throw him off.
Long and short…on the hottest day since we have arrived home, this hombre spent 2.5 hours getting me a signal!! Due to the fact that we are so far south, it is a 60% signal, but the Shaw folks tell me that is a great signal for Mexico.
I could not let Carlos work for $250 pesos, so I threw in another $100 and he was grateful. I was grateful having just saved $2150!!
Now to get Shaw to hook me up…and that was not fun. On hold for an hour and having given my info to 3 different peeps, we are finally hooked up.
Technical issues? I asked the rep why the satellite dish has 4 connections, two for A and two for B, while the receiver has two connections labeled 1 and 2. She told me I needed to have 2 cables from the dish to the receiver…huh?
How was I going to do this as I have only one outlet where I can hook the cable into? No answer and I will have to wait and see what happens and what kind of quality I get from the HD channels.
Tech issue #2…the TV does not recognize the sat receiver when I turn them both on. I have to turn them both on and then unplug plug back in, the receiver and then all is a-ok.
Tech issue #3…you lose the sat signal every time you change the channel. It comes back in 15 seconds or so, the price of having a Cdn dish this far into Mexico.
So…the HD channels I have seen, work a-ok…stay tuned after NFL fin de semana…hello playoffs!! Max is super stoked!!
So after all that was set up, we managed to get our day somewhat back on track. Nap and shower for Bexico and I took care of super Max.
The lomo de cerdo was not defrosted yet, so Bexico went out and grabbed us a roti pollo…hello la cena. Max needed our attention, so we ate one at a time (the norm it seems) and then it was bath and bedtime.
And that mis amigos, was our martes.
Miercoles? Sunny with a small breeze. I am about to eat some desayuno and then off to el gimnasio, Fonatur for some recycling and then Che. Then it will be Max duty while Bexico gets her list of to-dos accomplished.
Update you after the day is done.
Marco
610pm and madre y Max are in the bedroom….Max asleep on madre and Bexico reading her Kindle. 20 minutes away from starting la cena and I have finalized the 20 fotos for tonight’s blog.
Satellite? Wacky!! The signal canal (channel) now shows both A+B connections and we are only getting ½ of the channels we did yesterday!! I think this is technical issue #1…we need two cables running from the dish to the receiver. Ugh. Not sure how that will work as we have only the one connection coming out of the wall. Stay tuned.
More weird…sometimes we get a channel…5 is Global BC…and sometimes we don’t. No sé por que.
As for the day…as planned. I grabbed some desayunos and then headed to the gym. Here are the fotos.
This is for the restaurante across the street from our complex. looks like new bamboo.
A talented senorita outside mi padres favorite tienda de abarrote.
"Hey Bob...are you sure you need this torta?"
"Let's keep this on the down-low!!"
Just a pile of arena to be used for some construction.
Checking out the dance posters before getting ready to sell his watermelons and squash.
And joining the muebles hombre...the fishing pole hombre!!
Dumb a** maleducado turismo bus operators!! Happy to report this was cleaned up an hour later.
School is back in session. Based on these uniforms...Max will NOT be attending this escuela!! Ja ja ja
Our clima today...slightly overcast with sunny breaks.
The fishing pole hombre also had some bici for sale. I was hoping to catch this niña admiring the bikes...and I did.
But I also caught a wedgie in action!!
Great workout and thought I was going to get away without seeing Hector…but alas he arrived as I was headed upstairs for my cardio. Good guy but we only have so much to talk about.
Galdino (owner) came in and he always like to say hola and chat me up. The guy is 5’4” but is huge…must drink lots of jugo naranja!! Yeah right.
Through town and chatted up the boys. When I came to their tienda, they were in front of the computer looking at Google translate and trying to pronounce bottle and battle.
I again thanked Daniel and we had some good dialogue about life and niños.
Headed home and ran into Lalo #2. He is a funny guy and we had a few laughs and he called me “mandalong”…not sure of spelling. It is the name given to hombres who tend to the house while the mujer works to make a living. Direct quote from Lalo #2…”if I could get me one of those jobs I would!!”. Ja ja ja
Home and it was decided I would take Max with me as I ran the errands, giving Bexico some free time. We loaded Max up into the car seat and he was asleep before we hit the gate!!
Dropped off the recycling and hit up Che…where all the girls love Max!!
Che has been restocked and had a score on Ritz crackers!! I saw an elderly tourist couple who looked like they needed help and were anxious about asking a stocker, so I stepped in and they were quite relieved.
Showed Max off to many peeps and then into the checkout line. No niños to bag the groceries today as school is back in class…tough to bag with a niño strapped to your chest!! But the cashier helped and off we went.
Home, alberca time (short as the sun was going down) and now you are all caught up.
Time for lomo de cerdo, followed by bath etc.
Max fotos?
Max y madre.
Max having his first daytime siesta…in his cuna!!
And the first time I have seen this…Max looking at the mobile above where he sits in his conejito swing.
Not sure if you have this foto in your collection yet.
El Foxy…enough said.
Mañana? El gimnasio y Mojon. I hope to meet Roman down there as I had to cancel our cerveza from ayer, and he has not called me today.
Have a great jueves!!
Marco, Bexico y Max
