NFL Domingo…looked frio in Chicago!!
Up very early today as the four of us had planned to go to Barra de La Cruz.
Two minutes out of the condo compound… desponchar llanta…flat tire. Argh. Pulled over and Jay assisted…10 minute tire change. It is the same tire as the one that went flat outside Mazatlan, but I think I saw a screw in the tire. Oh well…I will get it fixed on Martes.
After the tire was changed, it was a nice drive, about 15 minutes past Mojon and then 10 minutes through Barra to the Playa.
Barra comes from barriada, which means district or quarter. This barra is a small hamlet of houses, one church, one school and a few abarrote (grocery) stores.
A beautiful playa…very large and long...but there were no waves. It is truly the wrong time of year for GREAT surfing, but there are usually some waves. Not today. But at least we know where Barra is and how to get there. Barra is unique in the fact that they have made it clear they are a Mexican community and do not want to sell their land.
Mojon is different in that no one lived there…the owners lived up in the mountains and sold their beach properties so they could have better lives in the mountains. Lucky for us!!!
So we had desayunos at Barra…Huevos Mexican…huevos, frijoles, arroz y tortillas. All this for $30 pesos!!
We decided to stop at Mojon and see what it was like there. Mojon had some good waves but the locals were on them, so we climbed the headland to go to Majuhual, the playa next (West) of ours.
Here are some photos taken from the top of the headland. L
This one is our lot, cleared and with our palalpa.
This is Majuhual.
And this is Bexico getting into the oceano, next to a fisherman.
Here is a set of Bexico surf photos.
Paddling…
Getting read to push up…
Pushing up…
About to stand up...
And then I ran out of film.
But here she is after though…board and body all in one piece!!
We decided to go back to Mojon, but first we washed the salt water off in the fresh water stream…very refreshing.
In the stream, I saw this little fellow.
Over at Mojon, Bexico and I took a siesta under the palapa and then she grabbed the body board and took in some waves. Here is a photo of me using the new cortaperno (bolt/wire cutters) on some alambra de puas.
A few years back, some local put up posts and barbed wire on the playa in front of all the beachfront lots, and then tried to sell the plots. Duh…totally Federal land so that won’t ever happen and the wire was rusting and looked bad…so I adios’d it!!
Before we packed up, a Mexican drove by in his pick up, came to a stop and got out to talk to us. It was awesome!! He spoke NO Ingles but the three of us had a nice little conversation.
He was looking for someone he was meeting, they were driving a white Ford van. We told him we had been there for 2 hours, but had not seen anyone else. He asked if we owned the land and told us he lived about 10 minutes away. He mentioned he could do work for us, including construccion. We got his name, Victor, said mucho gusto (nice to meet you) and then shook hands. I cannot wait until our Espanol is up to snuff and we are having all these conversations with the locals. We know they appreciate you trying to speak Espanol, but it will all come together once we truly do!!
Last note about Mojon…we love the palapa!! It is so relaxing to hang at the playa and have some shade to go to!!
A quick chat at the checkpoint and we were on our way. We stopped at Senor Puck and made our la cena de Navidad reservations. Two at 6pm for turkey and all the fixins!!
Got home and did the alberc thing to rid ourselves of the sand, and then I had a quick iChat with mi padres (padre=father…padres=parents). Lots of rain in Victoria.
Our cena tonite was pasta…the last box from Canada. But no worries as the meal I make with all Mexican products, is even better!!
Bexico just finished her iChat with RJ and I am about finished here. New game on the tube…Eagles vs Cowboys.
Manana? Jay has kindly arranged a rafting trip…and he even got the pick up hour changed from 7am to 8am!! Should be fun. Then Martes we will be back to our regular schedule…gym and getting the llanta (tire) repaired.
Hasta luego.
