Safe and sound after our trip to Pochutla, Puerto and back.
And did we strike oro (gold)?
That is un kilo de queso amigos!! At first we could not find any cheddar in the display case and then Bexico turned around and found this 2.5 kilo block sitting on a display table. We stood in line with the block and when I asked for un kilo, the lady looked at us and said “¿como?”. I guess they don’t sell a lot of one kilo blocks of cheddar? Ja ja ja
But let’s start at the beginning of the day.
The forecast was thunderstorms.
Based on that foto, I will take a few more of those forecasts!!
Pochutla is one hour and 50km away from La Crucecita. It is a very winding road but traffic in our direction was light. But in the other direction, many turismo buses were headed to Huatulco!!
We passed through the militar checkpoint and headed 5 minutes off the highway to Pochutla. We stopped at the Bodega to see what they had to offer.
This was one of two friendly parking control hombres.
And these are some of the many peeps who unloaded from turismo buses and headed into the Bodega to stock up.
Bodega is a Walmart brand and it is similar to a Superstore in Van or TO. Food and a sprinkling of electronics etc.
We scored on a few food items we have been out of at our local Che as well as a few other items. Good haul and for only $28 Cdn.
The most interesting part of this trip to the Bodega, was our cashier at the checkout. I cannot remember her name, but she was a hombre. Fully dressed as a mujer, had a mujer’s name, but spoke with a man’s voice. We are observant and Bexico figured it out before we even got to unload our purchases onto the belt.
The purpose of mentioning this interaction? We were happy to see that Bodega, and at least some Mexicans, make it comfortable for people to express how they feel or who they are.
There are not many maps of Pochutla, but what we read online was that the lunes mercado was just past the iglesias. So we parked on a side street, with a view of the church and started walking.
The market is held on a closed off street as well as a few side streets. It is quite long and narrow, and was packed with peeps.
Here are some fotos showing just the market and the peeps.
And here are fotos of some items that the sell in the market.
A helado (ice cream) hombre.
Mats y baskets.
Hammocks and more hammocks.
Sold by a family of four.
Ah ha!!
This is where the wood workers are on lunes!!
Cebollo and more cebollo.
I have no idea what these fruits are.
I sat on a curb for 15 minutes watching this couple sell the fruit at the price of 1 for $5 pesos and 3 for $10. They looked like farm workers and had their nino with them, slung over madres shoulder.
Tough way to make a living, but they seemed oblivious to that and were quite happy today.
And for my madre…the tienda de telas y some colorful yarn.
And even the big guy got in on the mercado.
Later in the day we saw an otra hombre, dresses identically, who looked like this young man's father (not that type of father...).
There were 100's of other vendors and they were selling household items, clothing, flowers, meats etc.
Misc fotos.
Otra taxi foto for you collectors.
We liked this umbrella…very palapa themed!!
The local gimnasio.
And if you over do it, you just get carted across the street to this business.
Is it a small world? Un mundo pequeño? Yup. I ran into our maestra, her espousa, hijo and nuera (daughter in law).
After several hours walking the market, we loaded up and headed to Puerto. It is 70km but only an hour.
We parked by the main playa and did a stroll and grabbed some lunch. It was HOT in Puerto. Phew.
Here are a few fotos from the stroll. It is truly a tourist area and the playa was packed with peeps on vacation.
Tiendas de tourist.
The playa here is where the fishing boats come in. One playa up the coast is the surfer playa and the waves there were looking good today.
We did not find the muebles tiendas we were looking for and we were pooped as the heat had drained our energy. So we hit up the Che in Puerto and as you know, we scored on the cheddar!!
Two hour return trip to Huatulco and when we got home, we actually managed to see a 30 second rain shower outside our condo window!!
Had the second half of hamburguesa domingo por la cena…I could eat them three days in a row!!
Mañana? It has been two days since my last trip to el gimnasio, so that will be first thing on the list. We have appy hour at R&H’s at 530pm and we expect to see the Nucks beat the Hawks starting at 7pm our time.
If the weather is good, expect some alberca time and we plan for Mojon on miercoles.
It is 9pm and the temperatures are midnight temperatures. It is already down to 28 degrees outside and you can smell the rain in the air. How exciting as all the trees and plants are aching for some water.
Hasta mañana.
