Day 4 Albuquerque NM to Salt Lake City UT

Buenos noches from Salt Lake City!! Surprise surprise…no casinos here!!

A quicker trip then expected…and shorter too. Left at 715am and pulled into Salt Lake City at 415pm. Only 9 hours for 859 km…not bad.

Mañana I have 1100 km and a projected drive time of 10 hours and 20 minutes, but I also gain an hour of time when crossing into Oregon. I will probably leave at 730am and pull into The Dulles Oregon at 515-530pm their time.

The day? The truck definitely has an issue but is doing what it needs to. I kept it under 3000 rpm and the gas mileage was awesome. Shitty power from a dead start, but I will email mi amigo at Nissan and get something set up.

It was CHILLY this morning…I needed heat in the camioneta. I am sure that socks and shoes (and maybe pants?) will soon be in order.

Here are some points of interest from the day. Bono took the notes…my job is to be the scribe.

-bombing along and I swear I am seeing so many churches. It turns out to be power poles. Ja ja ja

Here is an example of what I saw for the first hour or so.

There truly is some beautiful country out there. I would consider taking a vacation here and exploring.

-saw a sign stating we were at 7000 feet above sea level

-another sign stated we were crossing the Continental Divide

Here is Wikipedia’s take on that subject.

-every time I pass a car, or we are side by side, I flash them Moonie. I have seen many peeps laugh. I should have used that on the Mexican Policia!!

Here is an old foto of Moonie in action.

-stopped for gas on a reserve and chatted up an Indian fellow. He wished me a good journey and like so many other people before him, he was VERY curious about the 2 surfboards!!

-drove through some Navajo tribe lands. They sell Kneel Down bread on the side of the road.
Here is info on the Navajo and their bread.

-in New Mexico I saw many tents and signs stating they were for religious revivals.

-1025am and into the state of Colorado

-1140am and into the state of Utah

-in between I saw  a Ferrari (like Magnum’s) drive by

And what is that on the montaña of Utah?

Nieve!!

-headed into some VERY dark clouds. Yup…an hour of heavy rain.

-I drove by Newspaper Rock…busy tourist spot.

Here is info on it.

-then I came upon Moab. I love the style of housing they have here…maybe something like that for Mojon?

Here is a web page with some examples of what I mean.

Around Moab there were 100’s of bicyclists and they seem to have miles of paved trails to go riding on.

Click here for more info on bike trails at Moab Utah.

-as I was driving, I passed many hunters. All cammo’d up. Probably a sin to gamble or look at certain types of films, but killing animals is ok

-bombing onto Salt Lake and through a VERY windy and winding canyon

And what is at the end of the canyon?

Smart thinking to do that. And who took the foto? Bono!!

Pulled into Salt Lake and grabbed another Subway for dinner. I found a gym…they were closed. But did hit up Lowes for some ant killer!! Hello Terro!!

Rick gave us some of this in Huatulco…works like a charm. We do not have big ants, or a big problem, but we do get our share of the little guys!!

And that was my sábado.

Oh yeah…great news!! Bexico’s new Mac is en la casa de mi hermano and Kim, his esposa, might be bring it to Bexico mañana!!

Last foto of the day?

I told Melon it was not too late to meet me for some blackjack!!

Buen fin de semana!!

Marco y Bono
