Hola. Today is Lunes Noviembre 8, 2010.
Ayer, Domingo, was a quiet day. We had our desayunos, it was pan frances Domingo for me and Bexico had huevos y tocino. Maybe next week we have huevo revueltos…scrambled eggs.
As Bexico was about to eat, our door buzzer went off and after shouting “uno momento por favor”, I opened the door to see Rick and Heidi.
Our landlords have arrived back in Huatulco and they are here until early January. Bex had not met Heidi before, so there were introductions and then some chat about internet, the condo and misc.
They are nice people and I am sure we will see them every now and then in a social aspect.
After they left, it was all about NFL Domingo, the alberca (which was unusually quiet for a Domingo) and a quick walk to both the panificadoria and the veggie store. At the veggie store, I asked por uno recibo and was promptly given a receipt. I wanted the receipt to practice more Espanol.
- ejotes are green beans
- pepino are cucumber
- zanahoria are carrots
- jitmoate is tomatoe, in this case roma
- limon is a lime
- and lechuga is lettuce.
The prices are generally very good. The limes were $1 peso (about 9 cents for 3 limes) while a big head (?) of broccoli was $9 pesos or about 75 cents.
Said hola to the guys at the gate…they ALWAYS appreciate the hello…and last time we left Ricardo with a platano, a banana.
Dinner was cerdo con papas y ensalada mixta, and we started with some pan con oil y vinegar. So good!!!
Here is some misc Mexican info…
I saw a few of the condos in our compound rent out for $6000 pesos a week. We are doing well then if we only pay around $7200 pesos for a month. Also saw a third floor unit, with a loft and extra bano, for sale at $135k. Not a good deal if you ask me.
We have received two utility bills in the past few days. Yesterday it was the water bill…not sure how much we owe as it is a tad confusing. Usage for the dos mes pasada (two months past) is 16…16 of what, I am not sure. The bill includes $49.62 pesos for consumo and $9.92 pesos for alcantarillado (sewage), but the total a pagar (total), states a big zero. We will go to Fonatur (they supply water) on Monday and be prepared to pay the $60 pesos ($5 Cdn) as they cut you off pronto if you do not pay.
Our gas bill (hot water tank and stove) came in as well. This is calculated and distributed by the Asociacion de Condos and this bill, for Sept and Oct, is a whopping $204 pesos or $16 Cdn. We pay this right to Oscar, the head honcho on site.
Finally got some good use out of the first aid kit we brought with us. Bexico had a tiny cut on her foot and we sanitized, threw in a few stitches and bandaged her up.
Water jug issues. We were stopped at the seguridad gate and shown the 19 litro agua jug we had left to be exchanged. We received our agua, but I guess the company did not pick it up the empty because there is some damage to it.
The issue is that we did not cause the damage and we must have received it that way. Now, how to explain that to mi compadres who do not hablo Ingles? There is a $50 peso deposit and moving forward, I guess we will look at the condition of the jug when it arrives, or try to have the gate guys do that as we are not always home when the agua is delivered.
Funny side story is that the empty bottle had a red cap and I guess that means it was from the Huatulco company (?). I watched one guy at the gate talk to the other and I fully understood what the intent was, if not the words. Get rid of the red cap and give the jug to a different (and there are many) water company. I said “si” and we all laughed.
As we left the gate, I saw the guys watching a tiny TV. The program was a Telanovela (very cheesy Mexican soap opera). I made a comment about it and the guys laughed and then I said “mucho grande chi chi’s” and I guess this is not something normally said in front of your novia (girlfriend), as they looked a little shocked. Bexico was howling so they started laughing too. We make friends wherever we go!!
Just some Mexican tid bits to fill you in on the goings on in Huatulco.
Here is today’s taxi…dedicated to the #1 taxi photo collector in all of Australia, Meli.
This taxi is situated in a residential area that overlooks Tangolunda (hotel resort area), thus it is called Residencial Balcones.
Otra vez (again), a quiet day.
Gym and then off to chat up Lalo regarding the jewelry website. Sat in Parque Central and used the wi fi…back of neck sun burn!!
I bumped into Roman today and paid him the $710 I owed on Mojon taxes and then I paid Oscar the $$ for the gas bill.
Bexico and I went to Fonatur, but did not know they are cerrado (closed) from 1pm-4pm for siesta and afternoon meal, the big meal in the Mexican culture, We will return manana.
We did go to Telmex and wow are they confused. Still no success with a phone/internet line and today it feels like we took a step backwards. Our installer tells us we needed to go to Telmex and get a new work order. Christina at Telmex says we do not need one and then confirms (?) that Bruno is aware of our need for a new line. Bex calls Bruno, but he sluffs us off on Jueves y Viernes so today we are back at Telmex and Christina still does not understand why Bruno feels he needs a work order.
She told us that she will talk to Bruno hoy (today) and IF she needs to make a new work order, she will. Argh…we thought this was settled semana pasada and here it is Lunes and we are talking about a new work order? It is also officially 6 weeks since the original order for phone and internet service was submitted. Welcome to Mexcio!! But honestly, this has really been our only true frustration, so life isn’t soooo bad, just inconvenient when it comes to the internet.
Another Super Che trip (small fridge doesn’t help) and then home. Bex is at the internet site and I will probably go and post this blog and then come home to cook la cena donde mi cocina.
Manana, pay the agua bill and go back to check in on Telmex. On Miercoles I am meeting Roman at Mojon to review the lot…exciting.
Hasta luego.
