Hola amigos!!
Lots of happenings today. It started off with our trip to the Universidad del Mar which is 5 minutes outside La Crucecita.
Here is a link to the Huatulco campus where they offer courses in International Relations, Tourist Administration and Communication Sciences. I hear they teach French, Chinese and English at the university.
A beautiful campus, with big a** lizards running around and chasing each other. They are not afraid of humans and as our group walked to the theatre, two ran over the feet of our maestra and we heard some shrieks and witnessed some quick step dancing!!
To be honest, it is waaaay to early in my español life to be going to a play in Spanish. Probably like going to the opera and not knowing the story or Italiano.
It was a full hour and the estudiantes seemed to enjoy it and gave after the performance, they gave a strong round of applause to both the actors and the professor.
Despues the show, we dropped one of our fellow classmates off at her car, and then came home.
Off to gimnasio and Bexico did her own video workout at home.
As I was leaving the compound, Ricardo called me over to assist a fellow Canadiense. I guess he had locked his keys in the condo and could not communicate this to Ricardo.
Assisted in clearing it all up with Ricardo who confirmed they would not call for a locksmith, but there was one down the block.
I took this hombre to a key cutter shop next to Bexico’s paleta shop. Confirmed the hombre at the shop spoke no Ingles, but communicated we needed a guy to come over and it was a done deal. The locksmith was to arrive in 10 minutes and upon returning from the gimnasio, Ricardo confirmed all was well.
Felt good to help, felt good speaking the español I did…need a lot of work on the verbos!! (same old story)
Anyways, here are today’s fotos.
I was looking elsewhere when I saw this nino following my eyes and camera. Slightly out of focus, but still a shot I like.
This senorita had many matching colors. Her bucket matched her ropa and the tie in her hair matched the mango.
I am always impressed at how hard people work to make $$ here. A crate, a bucket and a stoop and she is open for business.
Now this senorita had all her herbs laid out and was very busy dealing with her customers.
The signage from this restaurante was in a previous posting.
I took the photo because this restaurante is always clean and organized.
This hombre is a regular around town. He is harmless, but does like to talk to his invisible friend.
This nondescript doorway is the entranceway to the machines where you pay your electric bill.
And here is what these machine look like.
Great machines, great location, but the design has left something to be desired. ¿Porque? Thirty degrees (plus) outside, with 3 machines inside and no ventilation meant it must have been 40 degrees in there!!
We did receive our current electric bill and there is good news. It was ½ the amount of our last bill!! The big changes? Turning off some ceiling fans when we went out and at the end of the day as well as limiting the a/c.
The bill is interesting and I spent some time reviewing it today.
There are 3 levels of usage and billing with basico and intermedio accounting for the first 150 kwh each for a total of 300 kwh. After that, all kwh used are billed at the excedente level.
There is another section of the bill that is called Apoyo gubernamental, governmental support. Here it stated that the costo de producción was $1763 and our aportacion (contribution) gubernamental was $888, leaving us with a $876 pesos bill prior to taxes.
Electricity here is not cheap compared to BC Hydro, but at around $46 Cdn per month, it is still not too bad. Remember, here beer at the store is less then $1 bottle and around $2 in a restaurante!!
Here are the last two fotos from today.
These are the Fonatur guys working on ensuring peeps like me are not killed by falling palm leaves. The guy in the white shirt, in the middle of the foto, is my amigo the llanta repair hombre.
The benefits of their job?
Free cocos. My amigo pulled over just to get a free one!! Ja ja ja
My tiempo at the gimnasio was good, spent it working out and talking to Ghimbo about the Doberman pero he wants to buy and why. I like Ghimbo…but he may be nuts!! Ja ja ja
Came home for alberca time and then it was chillax time until la cena…cerdo con papas.
Mañana? I have a meeting with Lanny at 8 de la mañana to discuss Mojon, and will then hit the weights and then we are off to Mojon for the olas!!
The weather? All is good!!
Here is a link to our weather forecast for the next 5 days.
Tangolunda is the hotel zone 10 minutes from our condo and about 20 from Mojon.
Just finished watching Ley y Orden (Law & Order) and Bexico is back to work while I post this.
Hasta luego.
