Hola y Feliz Día de los Muertos!!

As read in the Oaxaca newspaper, here is what you need for your Día de los Muertos altar.

Ø  La cruz…the cross
Ø  Imagen de las animas del purgatorio…a picture of the soul, to help them exit purgatory
Ø  Copal e incienso…copal, an aromatic tree resin, and incense to clean the environment
Ø  Arco…an arc on the altar, decorated with limonairias y flor de cempasuchil…lemongrass and marigolds
Ø  Papal picado…chopped paper…no sé por que
Ø  Velas, veladores y cirios…3 different words for candles and I am sure each means a specific type of candle…preferably white and purple colors
Ø  Agua…water to reflect the purity of the soul and to help regenerate life
Ø  Flores…more marigold flowers
Ø  Calaveras…small figurines made of sugar or plaster or clay
Ø  Comida…food. Traditional or favorites for the soul to enjoy when they visit
Ø  Pan..bread. Christians look at bread as the body of Christ.
Ø  Bebida alcohólicas..duh. Sips of tequila, mezcal o pulque, a beverage made from the sap of the maguey plant
Ø  Fruta…fruit. Normally apples, oranges, mandarins, jicama, tejocte (resembles a crabapple)

Ok, there is your cultural lesson for the day.

Our day….5am wake up, one hour and 15 minutes of slumber and then we were up!!

Usual rutina, but the lil’guy was not hungry this morning. He made up for it later in the day when he wolfed back his comida y cena.

Good walk and madre joined us at the kiosko. She had been up early to see a seamstress…but they were closed due to the Día…doph. So she came out to see her familia!!

Max saw his amiga and they chased each other around for a while.

Max had 2 good naps today and padre finally caved in and took another one for himself. These 5 and 6 am shifts took their toll and I grabbed another 2 hours…waking up at 2pm. Yikes.

Still managed a trip to el gimnasio, took in the recycling and made it home in time for a trip to playa Santa Cruz con the familia.

3pm the clouds rolled in and there were some showers as well, but they held off while we were swimming and running in the sand. Nice and cool…no need for sunscreen.

Max had a blast and Sandra from INM came out to say hola and take a few more fotos. We had given her invitacion to Nathalie and she wanted to thank us for it. I suspect we will see her at the shin dig!!

It is getting dark waaaay early and at 6pm I needed headlights on the camioneta. We headed home and had a good PM rutina, which started with the yummy pizza from Baker Bex.

Currently 945pm, Max is asleep and has already has his 45 minute soothing. Like clockwork…45 minutes after he first falls asleep, he will wake up and cry and either need a hug, a kiss or a soother.

Bex is working hard in the oficina and we have a great plan for her to get a good sleep…a well deserved good sleep. Tank up the lil’machine at midnight or so and then she will sleep in the otra recamara and I will get Max some agua when he wakes up during the night. Stay tuned.

Fotos…lean day. Two hour naps from noon until 2pm will make that happen. Doph.

Max's dientes are really coming in!!

They almost looked like fangs?

Amigos...until Kow took Max's (mine...like I will ever get it back) camo playera!!

Take out the garbage and the trash, or you don't get no stinking cash...

Naaaah, it was a bag of clothes that we dropped off at Cruz Rojas, the Red Cross.

Padre needs a corte de cabello!!

Mañana…play it by ear.

Sábado I am going to get the bebidas for the party and on domingo I will grab the chelas y postres before Samuel y Moises come over at media-día.

Have a great viernes!!

PS...check back mañana for the octubre temperature stats!!

Marco, Bexico y Max
