Home safe and sound!! We took ruta 190 back to Salina Cruz (just outside) and then ruta 200 to Huatulco. Happy to say we had no mapa issues and did not get lost!! In regards to all the curves and gearing up and down, ruta 190 is much better then ruta 175, but still enough curves to make Bexico unhappy!! :(

190 reminded me of a one lane highway through the Fraser Canyon, minus the river and add in the cactus!! Not so many villages to see, but lots of places to pass slow vehicles!!

Just outside Oaxaca we stopped in el Tule (huge tree) and then after another 30 minutes we stopped at Teotitlán del Valle to look at and buy some amazing carpets.

This route was longer in terms of kilometres, but quicker by almost 1 hour.

The previous post (see below) has the rest of the Monte Alban fotos and as it is late and I am pooped...I will post today's fotos  mañana.

But...we are quite excited to share our rug experience (they will become wall hangings), so here are the two fotos.

This is a mono...another monkey for the villas!!

And this represents a family. We just loved the design and colors.

Add the individual prices and  they would have sold for $2700 pesos, we got them both for $2300...or roughly $193 Cdn.

The artisans dye the wool using natural ingredients, spin the wool into yarn (?) and then create these masterpieces by hand using some very large and complicated manual looms.

Both pieces took almost a week each just to create on the loom, not to mention the time to make their own yarn. Two weeks worth of art for $200...a great deal.

Mañana...more stories about our carpet adventure as well as the deets on the rest of our domingo.

Buenos noches.
