Buenos tardes from 34,000 feet up!!
For you blog followers, who may not be aware, we are on vacaciones por 11 days…but will continue to update the blog when possible.
We have made it onto our flight to Dallas, and in one hour we will land. Then it is a sprint to Immigration and onto security and our flight to Van. We have one hour to make that happen and our baggage is already checked through, so it should not be an issue!!
This American Airlines flight does have in-flight wi-fi…but we are saving the $9.99 for M&Ms…almond, dark chocolate y peanut butter!!
We had a fun taxi ride to the airport. We caught the cab on Carrizal, right in front of our condo. The fare is set but always following rule #1…cuanto questa? How much, with the answer being $120 pesos….$10 Cdn.
The cabbie spoke to us only in Espanol, and we prefer that. He asked where we were going to and when we said uno vacaciones in Canada, it through him for a loop. He repeated vacaciones and we said si, por que we are residents of La Crucecita. That made him laugh and smile.
Then he asked if I was the President of Canada and I made sure he realized Bexico is the Patron!! Lol
We got stuck behind a pollo truck and he did the safe thing and didn’t try to make a kamikaze pass!! He chuckled when I mentioned the cologne de pollo smell we were applying by driving behind the pollo.
He made me laugh when he asked if we had pollo in Canada. I said si y gato y pero as well. (cats and dogs).
Here are some aeropuerto photos.
While taking these photos, a security type guy asked me to stop, for security reasons. No permisso!! As he walked away, a taxi driver told me to continue and just tell the security guy that I worked for TV or a travel magazine. lol
There was a delay with our flight taking off. I guess there was an issue with some seating at the front of the plane. Enough of an issue that El Capitan came out of the cockpit to talk to the senora.
After take off, it was a straight forward flight and Interjet has done a good job filling the gaps created when Mexicana took its “break”. The boys at the shop say 21 de enero is the date Mexicana will resume service. Love Mexican flights…they still serve snacks and gratis cerveza!!
Now once we were in Mexico City, the fun began. We had to pick up our luggage and once we did that, according to our tickets, we had 20 minutes until boarding started for our next leg.
Of course my baggage was almost the last piece of the plane and we booked it to where we thought we had to go for international departures. We threw our bags into the xray machine and proceeded to receive the full security check of both carry on and the bags we want to check.
It wasn’t until 10 minutes later and they start to confiscate our liquids, do we find out we had to go to the airline counter first. Phew…the mescal will make it to Van!!
The AA counter is quite the hoof so we boogie through the airport and found a VERY simpatico AA assistant who told us primero…your plane is delayed…take a breath!! And then she shot us to the front of the Business class line so we could check in quicker.
All good there, so it was off to security otro vez, and then to Mexican Migracion. If you are a tourist, they collect your tourist card when you board the plane. If you have the FM3, you need to fill out only the salida (exit) portion of the tourist card and the Migracion officer enters some info into a computer. Not sure the whys of this, but we just followed orders.
Another “jog” to our gate, only to find out that we still have 20 minutes to wait. The only real issue we had was that Bexcio bought us some refrescos despues security, right by our gate, but they would not allow us to take them on. Strange.
Here is our one Mexcio City aeropuerto photo.
Full plane, El Capitan told us it was 3 degrees in Dallas…I am in shorts…my pants and sweatshirt (aka winter coat) are in my checked baggage. Brrrrr…frio!! Lol
30 minutes until landing. More later.
Hasta luego.
No crisis in Dallas, other then some upset people who had to wait their turn to get through customs. We did the full body scans…they picked up Bexico’s lip balm.
For Melon, here is our one Dallas airport photo.
Four plus hours to Vancouver, slept, watched wall Street 2.
Here are the photos from YVR.
And here is the mezcal photo.
The armed policia at Mexcio City only asked what was inside….one kilo of mezcal anyone? Lol
Just a light sprinkling of snow in the city…no issues. Popped into Safeway and loaded up the fridge and we have just finalized our plans for most of manana.
Bexcio is having her first bath in 4 months....
Until manana.
