How’s this for success?
Max woke up only twice during the night, and once he fell asleep with a simple “go back
to sleep” and the other time he leche’d up and fell asleep on his own!! And
what time did he wake up for good? How about 7am mis amigos…7am!!
Nice score for everyone!!
Padre got up and took over and madre grabbed an other hour of shut eye.
The plan for a 7am waking
was to leave for Pochutla at 9am…945am is kinda close isn’t it? Not sure how we
fell 45 minutes behind, but oh well.
No new work on the section
of highway that takes you to the aeropuerto, but they have at least got
everything paved. When the twinning of the highway will be finished…don’t hold
your breath.
Pochutla is about 50
minutes away and half way there, Max blew some chunks!! We don’t think it was
motion sickness, but more like a very full belly from desayunos, some road
leche and no chance to work some of it off.
So we pull over and call
in a code vomito. Max stands on the tailgate in just his socks, shoes y panale
and we wave at cars as they drive by. Madre is the rock star and goes into
clean up mode. Doph.
Thank goodness she packed
extra ropa!! Quick change and we are on the road again. And 5 minutes later…Max
is lights out!! It turns out to only be a 30 minute siesta, but it will carry
him through the day and he grabbed another 30 on the way home.
We prefer 2 hours plus for
his one siesta, but with the good sleep he had last night, we all managed a-ok
and he was a trooper for the whole day.
They still have the
military checkpoint at Pochutla and we were waved over. I rolled down the
window and in a whisper I told the soldier mi hijo was asleep. I rolled down
the back window, the soldier looked in at Bex y Max and said pasale…pass
through.
First stop is always the
Bodega, a Walmart owned tienda. We do not have one in Huatulco and they
normally have one or two things we cannot find in town, and today was no
different. That is if you consider cereal bars a score!! Ja ja ja
Max was asleep in the
camioneta and awoke while I was shopping, so madre y Max came in and we
finished off our shopping.
Then it was back into the
truck and 10 minutes later we were parked and headed into the tiangus. It is a
huge open air mercado that is only held on lunes. There are a ton of great
foods to be bought and deals of all kinds…some junk but lots of everyday items
peeps would use.
We grabbed some playeras
for Max as well as new pair of Mexican Crocs…$50 pesos for the shoes, muy barato!!
After about 45 minutes of
walking in the sun, time to head back to the camioneta and there lays another
story!!
Notice anything different
about the back of our camioneta?
How about if I zoom in?
Yup…the rear placa was
gone. When we returned to the truck, we had a ticket. Doph. Poor signage…or
maybe there was none…and we were ticketed.
I read the ticket and it
said our placa had been taken for security purposes. Want your license plate
back? Pay the ticket!! Doph.
We saw the tamarindo
officer and I asked her where the oficina was, and she pointed the way. I asked
how much the ticket was for and she said she could not tell me, I had to go to
the oficina.
That is good news as this
keeps the officers honest…maybe not the peeps in the oficina, but the front
line officers no linger are tempted to make you a deal.
So I did the 5 minute walk
and I knew I was getting close when I saw all these peeps walking by me with
license plates in their hands. Ja ja ja
I find the office and I
was told to head upstairs. There I find 10 small offices and I am not sure which
one to enter. I chose incorrectly but the senora pointed me to the right
office.
There, a hombre puts out
his cigarette and points me to a senorita who pull out my placa and asks for
ID. While she writes down some info, I am chatting up the hombre and making him
laugh.
The ticket cost is $300
pesos but only $150 because I pay it right away. I ask if it is a sale and that
is when he starts to laugh and then we talked about a bunch of other things.
I took a receipt back
downstairs and there I went to a caja and paid the bill. Then back upstairs
with the paid receipt and ta da…I was back in possession of the plates.
Back to the truck,
installed the plates and we were off. But not before driving over one of those
darn garrafons!! Doph.
On to Puerto, about an
hour away. Max was tired, but it was time for lunch and that woke up the
lil’man!!
We headed to the same
restaurante we normally visit, and had the same experience we normally have.
Doph…why do we keep going back? Ja ja ja
We ate, made a mess and did
our best to clean it up, left a good propina and made our way to Super Che.
It is a bigger tienda and
we found a few scores. How about croutons (lol) and Manwich (sloppy Joe sauce)?
But no cheddar cheese to be found…doph.
Time to hit the road and
we drive straight home, about 1 hour and 45 minutes. Max (y madre) caught
another 30 minute siesta and not a minute more. Yikes.
We get home just before
5pm and in a rush, we unpack, cook la cena and get the PM rutina set up.
Go, go, go, but we have a
nice dinner and even manage a FT con Oma y Opa before bedtime.
Only have two 30 minute
naps and expect the lil’man to be tired and NOT fall asleep quickly. And that
is what happened tonight. Madre used up her 30 minutes and the Whisperer needed
another 25, but finally the lil’guy just called it a day and fell asleep.
Currently 935pm and the
lil’guy has not yet stirred, madre is at work in her oficina (with her eyes
weighing heavy) and I am blogging. Now it is 1020pm and I just helped Max fall
asleep and had a good FT con Melon y familia. Always nice to catch up.
The rest of the fotos.
Too may peeps in the tiangus, so madre slinged Max up.
Moments after that foto was taken, we bought him a new muscle shirt as it was too hot for short sleeves. His other muscle shirt had old egg and leche on it...yech.
So the short sleeve shirt went into the truck. Moments after that...the shoes came off as they were too hot. Yup, they went into the truck too. Moments after that...hola to the $50 peso Crocs.
Some items for sale in the tiangus.
Including biblias for sale in a booth manned by a Quaker (I think).
Lots of peeps.
Lots of muebles made out of pino.
Max grabbing some agua y sombra, shade, under the roof of the basketball court. Something has caught his ojo.
He is very focused on something.
He must point it out to his madre via ah ah.
Of course....it is the bandera de Mexico. Hello!!
On the way back to the camioneta.
Max patiently waiting for his comida, lunch.
Oh, if only Huatulco had one of these tiendas a few months ago.
Add the "ería" to some words and it becomes the type of tienda. Pañal is a diaper so pañalería is a diaper store.
Zapato is shoe...zapatería is the show store. Joya is jewellery...joyería is a jewellery store. Lavadero is laundry...lavandería is a laundry mat.
Your Spanish lesson is over!!
Mañana? El gimnasio to
work off some queso cheddar y M&Ms…oh Bubba!!
Have a great martes!!
Marco, Bexico y Max
