Howdy from Medford Oregon!!

Happy Birthday Mom!!

Started the day with…a run!! Bad knees Bubba felt the need to exercise so in the pouring rain, and at 7am, off I went.

Back to the hotel by 730 am after scouting out the nearest Starbucks for Bex.

Loading the truck only took 1 hour today....lol!! Bex has moved on to re-arrange plan #4 and it looks like this is the one!! Until....I get in the drivers seat and we realize the truck has been packed with the seat in her position…lol…but not really! Fixed in a few minutes and we were off to Starbucks and then on the road at 915 am in pouring rain. At least we were not on motorcycles like the many peeps we saw.

Breakfast was a peanut butter sandwich and I thought long and hard about it as we went back to the hotel to pick up the pillow we had left behind. At least we remembered it before we left town. Bex remembered it…something just didn’t feel right in the passengers seat…no nap time without a pillow!! Ha ha ha

Down the Oregon Coast in the rain and on many one lane highways, it can become a tad monotonous. We did get glimpses of wide open beaches and wonderful waves crashing the shore. And here is a photo taken from inside the truck.

We averaged 60 km/hour for the first 3 hours and the decision to go all the way down the coast to Arcata needed to be re-thought. So after seeing the massive sand dunes in Florence (right before Dune City), we made the call to head East and hook up with I-5. Of course the rain stopped after we had made the decision and we were sure the rest of the route to Arcata probably would have been beautiful with lots of photo opportunities!! Oh well.

We made the turn East at Gardiner and off we went. Hit I-5 and made great time at about 120km/hr!!

We have driven 566 km today, about 90 km less then we planned, but the slow route was the issue. Tomorrow we head down I-5 to Mt Shasta California and then Highway 89, which turns into 44 and then 395, the original route we had planned into Reno. It looks to be about 500 km and we will consider driving past on, closer to Vegas, so we have more time for the casinos. Reno to Vegas looks to be about 725 km.

Weather forecast for Reno remains variable clouds and 27 degrees and Vegas sunny and 37. Yahoo!!

Saw many trailer homes today. Question….when people that live in trailer homes go on vacation, do they rent regular homes as people in regular homes seems to rent motor homes?

Saw much wildlife today. Many raccoons seemed to be sleeping by the side of the road. We knew they were not sun tanning as it was raining quite hard. After that we saw many (awake) elk (see below),

some pheasant, wild turkeys and then a dow with her fawns.

Just back from dinner and filling the gas tank. Very large portions at this restaurant….enough said. Bex’s huge salad was very good, my pot roast…not so much. But…being in Oregon, I have had a Widmer Hefeweizen both last nite and tonight. I love that beer so much I might get a tattoo of its logo. Wait, I already did that!!

The Motel 6 we are in tonight is cheaper then last night…it shows in the attitude at the front desk. We need a password for the internet, and the manager who has the only key to the drawer, has not answered texts or phone calls for the past two hours. Thus, two hours after checking in, and at 810pm, we have no internet.

UPDATE:

Internet access code for the Motel 6 in Medford Oregon is ANA887440....tell all your friends!!

Bex wants me to tell the blogging world that upon arrival at Motel 6, she spotted a gal rollerblading, so she said "ah-ha" and threw her blades on and found a stellar route that runs many miles beside the highway. As she lay in bed eating the M&M's, she also thought..."thank you Maggie for the special treat...I burnt those calories off during my awesome blade". Guilt free indulgence...M&M's don't melt in your hand, just on Bubba's side of the bed.

Ok, day 2 is under the belt...buenos noches.

Until next time.
