Welcome to Tranquillo Domingo!!

As per the title of today's blog, I am now labelling them as they would in Mexico. A comma after the day and the month does not have a capital letter.

Started the day by replacing and then installing a new o-ring on the espresso machine. Phew…Bexico got her caffeine fix!!

Had some desayunos, watched some football and then had some alberca time. Nice day here in Huatulco…looks like we hit 32 today!!

Back in for some more football while Bexico continued working on her animation contract.

Today, we received an email from Jay and it included all the river rafting photos he took. He had this great waterproof 35mm type camera…might look into one of those!!

Any who…here are some of the photos, again with credit to and permission from Jay.

The road up was really a one lane trail…here is what happens when you come upon another vehicle, and ours was a big truck!!

We came upon these bomberos (firemen), putting out some spot fires.

The river was running, but tiempo proximo (next time), we will go earlier Octubre or Noviembre to get some real rainy season run off!!

When we broke for lunch, the 3 main guides jumped right on cutting up the fresh fruit and cracking open the ever present 3 litro bottle of Coke.

And it would not be a trip without the guide allowing some passengers to “fall” out of the raft. I wonder how Jay managed to get his camera to shore BEFORE this event? Lol The two peeps in the water are Bexico and myself.

I am glad Jay captured this next photo. As we finished our trip, we pulled in under this bridge and saw an old school “walking wire”. Not only did we see kids hang from this and then jump into the rio, we saw this youngster walk across it.

This is where we stopped on the way home for some bebidas y refrescos. They also made tortillas here.

And as reported in a previous blog, here is the nino that REALLY wanted to pour the Mezcal tasters for us.

Before la cena, we went for a quick walk around town. It was a quiet day here…many of the turismo buses are headed back to Mexico City. Said hello to the boys, grabbed a galleta (soooo good cookie) and then we grabbed some veggies. Low stock…they should be refilled manana.

Bexico had a great iChat with her Madre while I prepared some chorizo quesadillas. And now? Chillax’in between watching the stink’in Seahawks try to make the playoffs and The Thomas Crown Affair.

Manana? Back to the routine...el gimnasio esta abierto!! As for surfing...we do have some 4 rated olas coming this week…stay tuned.

Feliz Ano Nuevo!!!

Did you survive anoche? How's the head feeling?

It is now 2011…prospero ano nuevo.

Our day was tranquillo…but the blog update starts with our cena from anoche. Here is where we went.

This is a fun little Italian restaurant that has some good history here in La Crucecita. The food is very good, the timing is slow and the service is hit and miss, but they are friendly!!

We had the usual. Mexican mas pepperoni…familia size!! Had a few Italian cervezas while Bexico worked her way through some agua con gas. When we arrived, we were the only table in the joint, but by the time we left it was getting quite full.

When it time came for la cuenta, our server brought the billfold and I dropped in one of the fake Mexican bills. She was almost at the caja (her patron) to pay the bill when she looked in and saw the note. She had a good laugh and then told us she was going to try the same thing on her boss. Nice to make the locals chuckle!!

We did a walk around town and ended it at Gabriels so we could wish the boys a Prospero Ano Nuevo.

Prior to seeing the boys, we took a shot at buying a dvd at the “store”. It is Due Date, also known as Todo en Parto in Espanol…not yet for sale anywhere…but we picked it up for $25 pesos…$2 Cdn.

We had some chuckles with the boys and we found out that NYE resolutions are called promeso de ano nuevo….New Year promises.

The town was busy and the restaurants were starting to fill up…just as we came home to get ready for Mojon.

We had some time before heading out, so we slipped in the dvd. Hilarious!! It was filmed in a theatre and we could see people moving around their seats, the screen was on an angle, and we could not hear the volume very well!! I have heard about these types of illegally filmed features, but had never seen one. Suffice it to say, it was basura and we won’t be buying more.

We headed out for Mojon and were questioned at Copalita. The soldier was friendly, understood our answers to his questions and we were on our way.

Off the highway it becomes pitch black as you drive through the jungle to the playa. And once there, it is still pitch black unless you have the full moon. All you hear are the olas from the oceanos and the animals in the bushes!!

We parked the truck and set up shop by the woodpile I had constructed a few days prior. Here are our bonfire photos.

As for the fireworks…we still have all of our fingers and toes!! The “professional” fireworks did as advertised, with this being our favorite one overall.

As for the locally made ones, this one…

It had a fairly large bang and left blown up newspaper all over the playa. We did the right thing and spent 15 minutes picking it all up….argh.

Now these ones…

The bang they made was LOUD (more like an explosion!!)…quite the way to bring in 2011!!

We let the fire die out, covered up the coals and hit the road. Why do you not drive the roads at nite? How about the two burros we saw walking along the side of the road?

We were waved through at Copalita and home and asleep by 3am.

Today was a later arising and once we were ready, back to Mojon for some KILLER boogie boarding waves. Some of those waves were crazy!!

We had the full search on the way to Mojon, and on the way back, we had a nice chat with the soldier. We are now the sympatico AND talkative Canadiense!!

Mojon was busy today, as we saw no less then 20 Mexicans doing what we too like to do. Walk the playa, hit the surf and get some rays. I am not sure about the “hotel” on Mojon…it might be open for day use (change rooms and a shower), as it has no power.

We hit Che on the way home and have just finished la cena. We are pooped….a bit (hee hee hee) tired from the late night, but more so from all the boogie boarding.

Misc

We have had a few fairly warm days and nights recently. Our days have been 32 and 33 (vs 28 and 29 for past week), while our nights have been 23 and 24 (vs 19 and 20 for past week). Heat wave!!

As for the Diciembre averages…daytime 29.9, down from 31.3 in Noviembre while nighttime was 21.2, down from 22.7 in Noviembre. As for rain, there has still been no daytime precipitation since Sept 29. (I sleep at night…maybe it rained then?) Nuestro (our) Americano blog followers....lo siento for the Celsius numbers!! lol  

Manana? NFL Sunday and probably alberca time.
